About Carrie

Carrie Butler is an award-winning author who, a decade into her career, made the faith-led decision to pull her backlist—a move that reflected an emboldened desire to use her creative talents with greater intention. Nowadays, she seeks to uplift others through a variety of artistic media, while sharing her life as its own work-in-progress. Inquiries may be made via her rescue pit bull, Mika.

Writing

What do you think makes a good story?

I think a good story is felt by both the author and the reader. They might feel it on different wavelengths, and they might relate it to different experiences, but a good story will touch them both.

Can you recommend any books on writing?

If there's one book I've recommended at least a hundred times over the years, It's Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need by Blake Snyder. Nowadays, Jessica Brody has given us non-screenwriters an adaption of our own called Save the Cat! Writes a Novel: The Last Book on Novel Writing You'll Ever Need

Then I'd recommend any of the thesauri by my friends Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi—or, if you're like me and limited on shelf space, subscribe to their One-Stop for Writers app.

Lastly, I'd be remiss to not mention The Writer's Guide to Psychology by Carolyn Kaufman, Psy.D. I keep a well-worn copy on my desk.

Will you help judge my contest?

In most cases, yes! Message me the details.

Can I interview you for school?

Sure! Message me the details.

My Assistants

I was looking for ways to help local rescues as a way to carry on Tucker's legacy when I saw Mika's photo online. She was covered in scars—believed to have escaped a dogfighting ring (as bait)—and had been pulled from a kill shelter on what was to be her last day on earth. Needless to say, I had a feeling we were meant to help each other heal. Mika joined the family in the fall of 2020. ❤

Early readers probably recognize this handsome boy, as I had a tendency to post pictures of him everywhere. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2020, Tucker was diagnosed with Lymphoma and crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of six. It pains me to talk about it, but my sweet boy will always have a place in my heart... and my website. ❤ We'll meet again someday.
